GLASS IS NOT THAT

Sound Art Compilation · Field Recording · Curatorial Project

2012

PROJECT INFORMATION

Glass Is Not That is an international sound art compilation initiated and curated by Lenka Morávková, extending the field-recording research developed for Glass Spilled Out of the Broken Bathtub into a collaborative format.

Morávková invited nine musicians and sound artists from different countries to work with the same source material: an extensive archive of field recordings captured inside glass factories and workshops in Northern Bohemia.

Each artist received access to the recordings and was given complete freedom to transform them into a new composition. The resulting works approach the same sonic material from radically different perspectives, turning the sounds of glass production into an international collection of experimental music and sound art.

The project extends Morávková’s research beyond her own authorship, using the archive as a shared creative resource and opening the distinctive sonic world of the Czech glass industry to new interpretations across different artistic practices and cultural contexts.

THE RELEASE

Glass Is Not That was released as a limited edition of 100 individually designed copies, with visual identity and packaging created by The Rodina.
