PROJECT INFORMATION
How can a glitch become an organic element of our spirituality? Can we find similarities between computer coding and mystic numerology? Can a “zero” become more than a concept?
When the Waves Become Walls is a transdisciplinary performance exploring the intersections between nature, technology and mysticism — and the unexpected spaces where these systems begin to resemble one another.
Created by Lenka Morávková, David Burch and James Diaz, the work brings together acoustic and electronic sound, live processing, moving image and dance. Rather than positioning nature and technology as opposites, the project searches for connections between organic structures and digital systems — glitches, repetition, code, numerical symbolism and altered states of perception.
THE WORK
The live performance combines acoustic instruments, voice and electronics with real-time sound processing, moving image and dance, unfolding within a stage design created specifically for the work.
Saxophone, voice, guitar, flute, drums and bass are combined with pedal processors, Monotron, Ableton and other electronic processes. Visuals by Katherine Guillen and performance by dancer Indra Corcuera extend the sonic composition into image and movement.
The work approaches technology not simply as a tool, but as another system through which humans search for patterns, meaning and transcendence — allowing digital error, organic movement, sound and mystic symbolism to coexist within the same performative space.
