MY HOME MY TORTURE II — PEACE AVe
Interactive Audiovisual Sculpture
2015
PROJECT INFORMATION
What is the sonic environment that surrounds us — and what is the one we would actually like to live in?
My Home My Torture II — Peace Ave continues Morávková’s long-term sonic research into the places she has lived, following the first chapter of the series developed in Barcelona.
Morávková lived on Peace Avenue for approximately three years, experiencing its changing soundscape — and its persistent noise — as part of her own everyday life. The work responds to the transformation of the avenue, the main street in the centre of Pardubice, which underwent an extensive visual and sonic alteration. A familiar public space became a playground for sociopolitical tensions and a sound invasion into the everyday reality of its inhabitants.
The work takes the form of a monumental, sparkling cobblestone — an enlarged fragment of the street itself — concealing an interactive audiovisual environment inside.
HOW THE INSTALLATION WORKS
Visitors insert their heads into the sculptural object, entering an intimate audiovisual environment controlled by the movement of their own head.
Interactive video and sound shift gradually between two contrasting realities: recordings made on Peace Avenue during its reconstruction, filled with construction noise and the intensity of the changing urban environment; and quiet, sensory recordings created by Morávková in natural environments — including underwater footage from the Mediterranean Sea and intimate ASMR-like sequences of drawing through sand with her fingers.
By moving their head, each visitor can navigate between these environments, continuously blending one into the other. The interaction creates a personal transition between the sonic reality one is forced to inhabit and the environment one might choose to inhabit instead.
